There are alternatives to traditional publishing...
First-time authors may decide to publish their novels outside the traditional publishing industry. These writers might choose for self-publishing, or they can explore the ever-expanding network of independent publishing houses that hold a share of the literary market.
We would never discourage someone from painting for the sake of painting, but we don't do the same for books. Writing a novel, short story, or non-fiction can and should exist autonomously from validation of commissioned or institutionally published work.
Encouraging people to write and (self)-publish, or publish through an indie publishing house falls the same direction as encouraging people to create art. It doesn't have to hang on a museum wall for it to be important.
During this webinar, Founder of Maven Publishing, Sander Ruys & Founder of Storyhouse Works Hannah Huber will have a conversation about the ins & outs, and pros & cons of self-publishing vs independent publishing houses.
There's plenty of room for Q&A and discussion.
- how does an independent publishing house operate?
- what type of author is a good match for self-publishing vs an indie publisher?
- how much guidance does an indie publishing house provide?
- how do author royalties and rights work with each?
- how do I find the right indie publishing house for my work?
- how much choice do I have in my editor, cover design, and overall look & feel of my book?
