Tilting Axis: Amanda T. McIntyre

Join us for a hybrid online/offline discussion with Amanda T. McIntyre, this year’s Nieuwe Instituut/Tilting Axis Fellow. In conversation with Annalee Davis (Tilting Axis) and Federica Notari (Nieuwe Instituut), Amanda will share insights from her project Present Continuous, which explores how to preserve contemporary Caribbean masquerade culture - with a focus on materiality and intellectual ownership.

Trinidad-born Amanda T. McIntyre is a writer, scholar and artist. She is currently the Creative Director and Lead Designer at the Dolly Mas Visual and Performing Arts Company. Her project Present Continuous explores sustainable ways of archiving and preserving mas: contemporary Caribbean masquerade cultures. For the Nieuwe Instituut/Tilting Axis Fellowship, she continues to weave together architecture, mas, queer studies, and climate justice in order to identify ways to preserve and protect Caribbean carnival costumes and traditions while supporting the environment and local communities.
