Join us for a knowledge session where we delve into the world of intellectual property (IP) and in particular patents, with a special emphasis on safeguarding your innovations in the domain of spatial computing and its applications. Discover what aspects can be shielded under a patent, the boundaries of protection, and the strategic considerations in securing your solutions.
Our speaker, Twan Uijttewaal from the Netherlands Patent Office, will lead an exploration of the fundamental principles and rights associated with IP. Following this, Sjoerd Bielleman Patent attorney at EP&C, will share insights into the specific requirements for European software patents, illustrated through real-world examples. We end on a practical note, as Andrew Statham of ARION will share their experience with IP and how they put it to use in their business.

Speakers
Twan Uijttewaal
Twan is an intellectual property advisor at the Netherlands patent office (part of RVO) and is based in the Eindhoven region. In his role he assists SMEs with questions related to intellectual property. Activities include one-on-ones with entrepreneurs, providing workshops on various IP-topics and patent searching.
Twan holds an MSc in biotechnology from the Wageningen University, and entered the field of intellectual property after finishing his internship on the same topic. For 6 years Twan worked at an IP-firm in Eindhoven as a Patent Information Professional. Carrying out patent searches on a diverse range of technologies. In 2022 he obtained the QPIP accreditation for Patent Information Professionals.
Twan joined the Netherlands Patent Office in the role of IP advisor in February of 2022 and is active in the Noord-Brabant region.
Sjoerd Bielleman
After completing his physics studies, Sjoerd Bielleman became a patent attorney in 2018. This role has provided him with both intellectual challenges and job satisfaction. His background enables him to understand and protect technological innovations across various fields, especially complex inventions where software drives technical effects.
He guides small and medium-sized businesses in protecting their intellectual property through strategic and tactical decisions. Whether it’s deciding on the best IP rights or responding to search reports, his focus is always on securing the best results for his clients. Helping businesses protect their innovations and succeed in competitive markets is deeply rewarding to him.
