About this event

Torsten Körner's documentary film tells a little-known story of West Germany: it looks at the women who have been fighting for their place in politics since the 1950s. He uses a lot of archive material from parliamentary sessions, the women's speeches, the men's reactions, and it immediately becomes clear how enormous the task of being taken seriously was - before anyone could even think about equal rights. Körner adds current interviews with the same female politicians, whose retrospective view of male domination is as frightening as it is entertaining. They remind us of the rigid gender roles that prevailed before they began their fight, and we recognise the strength that was needed to carry it through to the present day.
