About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Pet Fles is a new duo consisting of saxophonist Wietse Voermans and sound artist Oscar Peters. Within this project improvisation and sound discovery are central, which results in a quest in which Voermans and Peters discover various themes together through constant interaction. Their music is characterized by exciting sound contrasts between saxophone and live electronics, interaction with various sound objects such as metal plates and other resonators, a prepared saxophone and live processing.

They previously worked together within Peters' AIR Project, in which they explored the interaction between Peters' self-built experimental pipe organs and Voermans' saxophone sounds. With the AIR Project they performed at leading festivals such as Rewire, Gaudeamus and Ubb Hill. Peters was also part of Voermans' Spoken Quartet, in which he provided live electronics in the performance 'Lost Cities'. This performance was shown at Bozar (Brussels) and at Jazz International Rotterdam.

Oscar Peters is a composer and sound artist based in The Hague who distinguishes himself through his innovative approach to the pipe organ. As a maker of experimental organs, he explores the boundaries of this traditional instrument, which resulted in his album Breath and his recent composition Démarrage. As composer-in-residence of Rewire Festival 2023, he presented a specially composed work, written for his self-built organs, tenor saxophone and bass clarinet. Peters' work is characterized by his unique instrument designs and his view on sound manipulation.

Saxophonist, composer and improviser Wietse Voermans is known for his versatile musical approach and his constant search for new possibilities within his instrument. As bandleader of the energetic trio Vehikel, he moves effortlessly between different musical worlds. His talents were recognized with prizes as 'best soloist' during the Erasmus Jazz Prize (2016) and the Keep an Eye the Records competition with Spoken (2017). Voermans' musical path is characterized by his unique sound and unwavering curiosity for new musical horizons.
